Common Hyundai ECM Fault Codes
This guide covers the most frequently seen OBD2 fault codes on Hyundai vehicles in Hyderabad. Based on 9+ years of hands-on ECM diagnostics at HT ECM Solutions. Applies to i10, Grand i10 Nios, i20, Active i20, Creta, Verna, Tucson, Venue, Alcazar, Exter with Kappa 1.0T, Kappa 1.2, Nu 1.4, Gamma 1.4/1.6T, U2 CRDi diesel and Hyundai Smartstream engines. Each code includes exact cause, symptoms and repair steps.
Hyundai P0420 — Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold
Cause: Ageing catalytic converter or failed upstream/downstream O2 sensor. Very common on Hyundai Kappa and Nu petrol engines after 80,000 km. Converter efficiency drops after fuel quality issues common in India.
Check engine light, slightly reduced fuel economy, occasional hesitation, failed emission test.
Test both O2 sensors before condemning the catalytic converter. A faulty downstream O2 sensor mimics a failed cat. If cat is confirmed faulty, replace with OEM-spec unit.
₹1,999–₹8,999 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Hyundai P0011 — Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced (Bank 1)
Cause: CVVT (continuously variable valve timing) actuator fault or oil pressure issue. Common on Hyundai Gamma 1.4/1.6 and Kappa 1.0T engines. Oil sludge from extended service intervals blocks CVVT control.
Rough cold idle, rattling noise on startup, reduced power, poor fuel economy, timing chain noise.
Use 5W-30 fully synthetic oil and strict 5,000 km change intervals. Clean or replace CVVT actuator solenoid. Check oil pressure before blaming actuator.
₹1,500–₹5,999 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Hyundai P0113 — Intake Air Temperature Sensor High Input
Cause: Failed IAT sensor or open circuit in sensor wiring. Common on Hyundai i10 and i20 after 60,000 km. Sensor is integrated with MAF on newer models — check both before replacing.
Rough idle, poor cold start enrichment, slightly rich mixture, marginal fuel economy.
Check IAT sensor resistance at cold and operating temperature. Replace MAF/IAT combined sensor if resistance out of spec. Clean connector and check wiring.
₹500–₹1,499 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Hyundai P0087 — Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low
Cause: Failing in-tank fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. Common on Hyundai Creta and Verna CRDi diesel. High-pressure pump failures also seen on turbopetrol variants with high mileage.
Hard starting, severe power loss on highway, engine cuts out under hard acceleration, fuel smell.
Test fuel pressure with gauge. Inspect for fuel filter bypass (common on high-mileage vehicles). Replace in-tank pump assembly if pressure is low at rest.
₹1,999–₹5,999 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Hyundai P0341 — Camshaft Position Sensor Performance
Cause: Worn or contaminated CMP sensor or damaged tone ring. Common on high-mileage Hyundai U2 CRDi diesel engines and Kappa petrol engines.
Engine stall at idle or under braking, no-start condition, intermittent misfires, CEL on.
Replace CMP sensor. Inspect reluctor wheel for damage or debris. Clear codes and perform road test to confirm fix. Check timing chain condition on high-mileage engines.
₹999–₹2,999 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Hyundai P0562 — System Voltage Low
Cause: Weak battery or failing alternator. Very common on Hyundai i20 and Creta after 4–5 years. Hyundai ECMs are sensitive to low voltage and generate multiple codes when battery is weak.
Multiple warning lights, dim headlights, infotainment resets, power steering assist variation.
Test battery capacity with load tester — not just voltage. A 12V battery showing 12.4V can still have poor CCA. Replace battery and test alternator output (should be 13.8–14.4V at idle).
₹800–₹3,999 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
