What It Means

What is Mahindra P0299?

ℹ️

P0299 is triggered when the ECM detects that turbocharger boost pressure is lower than the expected target. On Mahindra mHawk diesel engines, the ECM expects a specific boost level based on throttle position and engine load. If actual boost falls short, P0299 is logged. This directly causes the engine to go into limp mode to prevent damage from running lean at high load.

Warning Signs

Symptoms of P0299 on Mahindra

Severe Power Loss

Noticeable lack of acceleration, especially above 60 km/h or under load.

💨
Black Smoke

Unburnt fuel due to insufficient air from low turbo boost.

🔊
Turbo Whistle / Noise

Unusual whistling or whooshing noise from turbo area under acceleration.

🔴
Check Engine Light

MIL illuminates on the dashboard immediately when this fault is detected.

Limp Mode

ECM restricts power to protect the engine until fault is resolved.

Poor Fuel Economy

ECM defaults to safe fuel maps when sensor data is unreliable.

Root Causes

What Causes P0299 on Mahindra?

🔩
Boost Leak

Cracked intercooler pipe or loose clamp causing boost to escape before the intake manifold — most common cause.

⚙️
Worn Turbo

Turbocharger vanes or bearings worn on high-mileage mHawk engines.

🔌
Wiring / Connector Fault

Corroded or damaged sensor connectors cause intermittent or false fault codes.

💻
ECM Software Issue

Outdated ECM firmware can log this code incorrectly. Resolved with an ECM reflash.
