What is Mahindra P0380?
P0380 is stored when the ECM detects a fault in the glow plug control circuit. Glow plugs pre-heat diesel engine cylinders for easier cold starting and clean combustion during warm-up. When one or more glow plugs fail, or the glow plug relay fails, the ECM logs P0380. In Hyderabad's climate this is less critical than northern India, but still causes rough cold-start running and white smoke.
Symptoms of P0380 on Mahindra
Engine cranks excessively before firing on cold mornings.
Unburnt fuel from poorly-heated cylinders causes white exhaust smoke for the first few minutes.
Misfires and rough idle until engine reaches operating temperature.
MIL illuminates on the dashboard immediately when this fault is detected.
ECM restricts power to protect the engine until fault is resolved.
ECM defaults to safe fuel maps when sensor data is unreliable.
What Causes P0380 on Mahindra?
Individual glow plugs burn out over time — most common cause, especially after 60,000+ km.
The relay that controls glow plug circuit power fails — causes entire bank to stop working.
Corroded or damaged sensor connectors cause intermittent or false fault codes.
Outdated ECM firmware can log this code incorrectly. Resolved with an ECM reflash.
