Common Maruti Suzuki ECM Fault Codes
This guide covers the most frequently seen OBD2 fault codes on Maruti Suzuki vehicles in Hyderabad. Based on 9+ years of hands-on ECM diagnostics at HT ECM Solutions. Applies to Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Alto, WagonR, Ertiga, Brezza, S-Cross, Ignis, Ciaz, Vitara with K10, K12, K15, DDiS diesel (SHVS), F8D and Maruti petrol/hybrid engines. Each code includes exact cause, symptoms and repair steps.
Maruti P0171 — System Too Lean (Bank 1)
Cause: Vacuum leak, dirty MAF sensor or dirty throttle body. The most common fault on Maruti K10/K12 petrol engines especially after 40,000 km. MAF sensor gets contaminated from dusty Hyderabad roads.
Rough idle, hesitation on acceleration, poor fuel economy, occasional stall at junctions.
Clean MAF sensor with sensor-safe spray. Inspect all vacuum hoses near intake. Clean throttle body. If persists, check fuel pressure and injector flow.
₹500–₹2,499 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Maruti P0300 — Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire
Cause: Worn spark plugs or ignition coil failure. Very common on Maruti K-series after 30,000 km without plug replacement. K10B and K12M engines use short-life iridium plugs that degrade early.
Rough engine vibration, jerky acceleration, poor fuel economy, engine warning light flashing.
Replace all 3 or 4 spark plugs together. Test ignition coil resistance. Check for oil leak into plug wells. Use NGK or Denso OEM-spec plugs only.
₹800–₹3,999 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Maruti P0400 — EGR Flow Malfunction
Cause: Carbon buildup in EGR valve or position sensor failure. Very common on Maruti DDiS 1.3 diesel (Swift, Dzire, Ertiga) after 60,000 km of city driving.
Rough idle, black smoke on hard acceleration, failed PUC test, reduced performance.
EGR valve cleaning with carbon cleaner. If sensor faulty, replace EGR position sensor. Reset ECM adaptations after cleaning.
₹1,499–₹3,999 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Maruti P0505 — Idle Air Control System Malfunction
Cause: Dirty or stuck IAC valve or throttle body. Common on older Maruti Alto, WagonR K10 engines. Carbon buildup blocks idle speed control especially after city running.
Unstable or surging idle, engine stall when stopping, RPM hunt between 500–900 RPM.
Clean throttle body and idle air control valve. Perform idle relearn procedure after cleaning. Replace IAC valve if cleaning does not fix.
₹800–₹2,499 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Maruti P0340 — Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction
Cause: Failing camshaft position sensor or damaged wiring. Common on Maruti K12 engines. Sensor is exposed to heat cycles and connector corrodes in Hyderabad humidity.
Engine cranks but will not start or starts and dies immediately. Intermittent no-start condition.
Replace camshaft position sensor. Check connector for corrosion. Verify timing chain has not jumped — K12M is known for timing chain stretch after 80,000 km.
₹999–₹2,999 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
Maruti P1450 — Barometric Pressure Sensor Performance
Cause: Maruti-specific code for MAP/BARO sensor performance deviation. More common after ECM software issues or sensor aging on SHVS hybrid models.
Slight power loss at altitude, marginal idle quality, fuel trim adjustments visible on live data.
Update ECM software first — Maruti often releases TSBs for this. Replace BARO sensor if update does not resolve. Clear codes and retest.
₹500–₹1,999 at HT ECM Solutions, Hyderabad. Diagnostic from ₹499.
